THe astrology of blockbuster movies

My background in astrology has involved a great deal of personal research on locating patterns. When it comes to movie and music releases, I’ve paid particular attention to what bodies of work have gained lots of attention, sales and cultural relevance. When studying these releases, less attention is paid to planetary house placement as exact timing is not always available. Instead, the focus is on applying and separating aspects between planets and the condition of the Moon.

One could go into further detail about subject matter, outside influences, immediate reactions, etc. My analysis is solely covering movies that grossed more than 100 million worldwide and became cultural phenomenons. These are movies that were not only popular upon release, but continued to earn for decades to come. The charts used are the United States release dates - when it was often officially released worldwide.

The movies:

  • Aladdin
  • The Bodyguard
  • Barbie
  • Finding Nemo
  • Ghost
  • Independence Day
  • JAWS
  • Jurassic Park
  • Lord of the Rings Franchise
  • Mean Girls
  • Pretty Woman
  • Scream
  • Shrek 2
  • Spiderman 2
  • Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
  • The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
  • The Lion King
  • The Notebook
  • Titanic
  • Twilight

All planetary aspects are separating or applying by less than 6 degrees. All major aspects are tallied together under one umbrella - conjunction, sextile, square, trine and opposition. We are looking for ANY connection between these planets - it does not matter whether it is a hard or soft aspect.

Most commonly found:

  • Moon/Nodes
  • Mercury/Jupiter
  • Venus/Jupiter
  • Uranus/Nodes
  • Neptune/Nodes

Second most common:

  • Sun/Jupiter
  • Sun/Nodes
  • Moon/Jupiter
  • Mercury/Nodes
  • Venus/Uranus
  • Venus/Nodes
  • Jupiter/Nodes
  • Saturn/Nodes

The Moon aspecting the Nodes was overwhelmingly the most found aspect in these release charts. In traditional astrology, the Moon is connected to the masses and the general public - this is a very interesting correlation as the Moon is the fastest moving planet.

Benefic connections ruled as many popular and well-received creations are born under these aspects. But overwhelmingly, the Nodes were most involved in every single release chart. Whether it was the Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus or Neptune, the Nodes were being aspected in some manner. I find the Neptune connection particularly interesting as astrologers often correlate Neptune with the film industry, Hollywood and art in general.
